The upgrade of the ATLAS Luminosity detector (LUCID) for HL-LHC

چکیده

Throughout LHC (Large Hadron Collider) Run 2, the LUCID detector, that is located 10 cm from beampipe on both sides of interaction point (17 m z axis), has been reference luminosity detector for ATLAS experiment, providing on-line and off-line measurement with high stability a preliminary uncertainty about 1.7%. For high-luminosity LHC, new equipment more demanding precision requirements beam conditions are expected. The will therefore be completely redesigned, exploiting tried-and-tested technologies. Prototype detectors running technologies have developed installed tested during upcoming 3. These consist based PhotoMultiplier Tubes (PMT), which uses quartz window as Cherenkov medium positioned 30 beampipe, low-rate PMT in shadow one shieldings, fiber bundles used Cherenkov-light emitters transmitters calibrated an innovative hybrid LED radioactive-source system. In these prototypes, behavior Hamamatsu R1635 R7459 PMTs evaluated. this contribution, motivations redesign description upgrade illustrated, well detailed account tests performed including characterization study degradation under irradiation.

The ATLAS and CMS Plans for the LHC Luminosity Upgrade

In January 2007 the CERN director general announced the plan for the staged upgrade of the LHC luminosity. The plan foresees a phase 1 upgrade reaching a peak luminosity of 3 × 10 cms followed by phase reaching up to 10 cms. We discuss the physics potential and the experimental challenges of an upgraded LHC running. The detector R&D needed to operate ATLAS and CMS in a very high radiation envir...

Silicon strip detectors for ATLAS at the HL-LHC upgrade

The present ATLAS silicon strip tracker (SCT) and transition radiation tracker (TRT) are to be replaced with new silicon strip detectors as part of the inner tracker system (ITK) for the Phase-II upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider, HL-LHC. We have carried out intensive R&D programs based on n-on-p microstrip detectors to fabricate improved radiation hard strip detectors that can survive the r...

Selected issues for the LHC luminosity upgrade

The Large Hadron Collider started its operations on September 10th 2008. In a realistic forecast it is supposed to demonstrate (or confute) the existence of the Higgs boson for the year 2014. After this date the physics of rare events will be explored more in details and an upgrade of the luminosity can make an important difference in the program of experiments at CERN. This thesis proposes sev...

Development of n-in-p pixel modules for the ATLAS Upgrade at HL-LHC

Thin planar pixel modules are promising candidates to instrument the inner layers of the new ATLAS pixel detector for HLLHC, thanks to the reduced contribution to the material budget and their high charge collection efficiency after irradiation. 100-200 μm thick sensors, interconnected to FE-I4 read-out chips, have been characterized with radioactive sources and beam tests at the CERN-SPS and D...

Investigations of the Parameter Space for the Lhc Luminosity Upgrade

Increasing the LHC luminosity by a factor of ten is a major challenge, especially for the beam-beam long-range interactions and even more for the magnet technology and insertion layout. To help identifying consistent solutions in this multi-dimensional constrained space, a parametric model of an LHC insertion was prepared, based on the present LHC layout, i.e. “quadrupole first” and small cross...
